Every year in the village of San Bartholome de Pinares, locals ride thier horses though bonfiress that have been lit in the cobbled streets. The festsival marks the eve of the feast of Saint Anthony, the patron saint of animals.
The tradition began over 500 years ago, at a time when livestock was dying of an unknown disease. It was believed that the smoke and flames would protect the animals in the coming year.
